Why do 4 months baby refuses mother's milk? Nursing Concerns

Updated: Nov 13, 2022

As mothers, we always want our children to be happy, whether they are playing, laughing at others, or making their first few sounds.

We are not practitioners, unlike doctors, but we do our best to find a remedy to each of their problems at home before seeking professional assistance. We do our best to avoid those medications as early as possible for that little munchkin.

Here's my experience: My four-month-old son refused to breastfeed and preferred top feeding, but I was relieved that he was getting something, as every mother is. The baby was crying loudly and squealing, it sounded like a breastfeeding strike, and like any other mother, I tried to calm him and feed him, but he refused.  We tried everything to make that cranky mood go away. We use browsers to find solutions to return them to that happy, smiling, playful state.

Different voices, noises, wiggling ears, and babbling did not work in that situation. It can be aggravating when smiling, cooing them still results in a blank stare, but we still enjoy repeating it. Actually, we love it!! Still, questions dwelled ?? Is this actually the room that the baby no longer likes, but how would a four-month-old judge that, or is it the baby who doesn't like me? Is he unable to recognize me, Is he upset about something, is he uncomfortable, is there anything bothering or hurting him?

These questions were normal to us because he was refusing to approach his own mother, but he was fine with other family members. Not perfectly, but he was pretty good.

Over Google search "Why 3 months baby suddenly refuses to breast", we found out that it might be following reason, sharing few marks

Source: Harper Bazar

* The first and obvious result was "baby might not feel well"

* The big change in nursing routine, which wasn't done actually

* The baby getting less milk 🍼supply than supplement bottles

* The baby bit you while nursing, and you had a loud ouch, that's what they mentioned

* A strong essence in the nursing routine, a change in the essence of the mother's body to the baby

Later, a few remedies were discovered, such as what we should do to soothe babies.

* Try to talk to them, and hold them up to provide extra comfort, love, and cuddles.

* Pump or hand press milk and give them that

* Make skin-to-skin contact with the baby

I usually use a nursing pillow when experimenting with different nursing positions.

** If no medical reason can indeed be found, seek advice. **

We as mums can relate to anything because we try our hardest to calm them after hearing their cries and seeing their watery eyes, and so we did. I tried everything: skin to skin, loving them, even apologizing.

After the entire day, the conclusion was none of them. We related to everything else as if he was in pain. Was that stomach pain? No, even though we believe even babies get hiccups "badhai," their stomachs are fine. Baby hiccups are very common and usually harmless.

Another question raised to check Is that a diaper rash?

Yes, the soft skin is hurting, but that can't be the only reason for such a loud cry.

In newborns, there are three types of cries, you must know

Hunger cry: During the first three months of life, newborns must be fed every couple of hours.

Colic: Approximately one in every five newborns will cry because of colic pain during the first month after birth.

Sleep cry: By 6 months, your baby should be able to fall asleep on its own.

And it wasn't any of them.

Finally, we discovered "pinworms in babies."

Pinworms are small white worms that look like threads and are found in and around the child's bottom (rectal and anus). You can clearly see the images to better understand. In this case, treatment includes taking anti-pinworm medications and thoroughly washing pajamas, bedding, and underwear.

What causes pinworms?

It could be a myth because whatever a mother consumes will directly feed the baby in the early days. The microscopic eggs can enter the mouth via contaminated food, drink, or fingers. Also, Eating sugary foods will worsen a parasitic infection, causing it to spread faster, according to research. Parasites are most active at night, so eating late at night can increase their activity.

What are the signs and symptoms of pinworms in babies?

A baby with pinworms may have difficulty sleeping, irritable and fussy behavior, and itching in the anal region. Irritation around the anus (vaginal itching in girls) is also a sign.

Treatment

If you find yourself in the same situation, here's how to treat pinworm.

What works for one person may not work for the other. If a newborn is not relieved, seek medical attention.

Try ghee/homemade white butter/cold-pressed coconut oil with no fragrance. Coconut oil is preferred because it is antibacterial. Using a cotton ball, dap the rash area.

Avoid taking any oral medications because it is believed that the baby is still developing. However, if an untoward case is detected, then follow the instructions as prescribed.

To remove eggs laid overnight, daily morning cleaning is required.

Before changing the diaper, wipe the baby's bottom. Along that all bedding and clothing should be washed in warm water.

In the summer, getting sunlight is the perfect cure, while in the winter, can skip but definitely prefer daylight in rooms only without turning on the fan to avoid any cold cough.
